The party awoke in The Mace and Flail and let Pike Steer go his way. Gaius came to the suite and invited the group to the exhibition between Berserker and an unknown creature in two days. As they prepared to depart, they acquired The Left Finger, two Hooked Polearm, and a few bottles of Special Health Potion.
Descending from the mountain path, they reached the small port town below. There, Huckleberry reclaimed his anchor from the blacksmith, while Pippin Tangletoes commissioned leather armor for Lady Cluckington. The blacksmith spoke in hushed tones of the Ashen Wing, a ruthless group that extracted heavy tolls under the guise of “protection” from wild creature attacks — little more than a shakedown in disguise.
Determined to continue their journey, the party climbed back up the mountainside and bonded over sharing about their history. Lok’tar stayed with the Displacer Beast, and the rest reentered the mysterious cave where they had once been transported. Winding through its tunnels, they emerged into a vast, echoing cavern — and there, the ground began to tremble.
A Remorhaz erupted from the stone. Battle was joined.
The group threw out some torches and split into two: Pippin Tangletoes, Newt, and Huckleberry circled to the right— Oryx Valeshade, Casstus Wolfe, and Hardough went left. Casstus Wolfe hit first with his silent vicious mockery, Hardough and Pippin Tangletoes Newt and Huckleberry all made attacks that did next to nothing.
Oryx Valeshade then hit a crit and hooked the beast with The Left Finger, but was soon swallowed whole — only to strike back from within its molten core, damaging the creature from the inside. Huckleberry used his decanter of endless water to try to douse the Remorhaz, but it just creates a cloud of steam around it, glowing bright orange in the darkness. Pippin Tangletoes uses his action and action surge to command Oryx Valeshade to attack twice from the inside where he rolled another crit! All the while taking 6d6 damage from the heat, he gets down to 8 hp. Newt, thinking fast, dove into the mouth of the Remorhaz and poured a health potion down to Oryx’s fiery prison. Oryx Valeshade, struggled against the Remorhaz, and managed to receive most of the potion, but got drunk in the process. Casstus Wolfe did more damage from vicious mockery, Pippin Tangletoes commanded Newt to attack from the inside now (instead of causing Oryx Valeshade to do it and take more damage) and she lands the finishing blow. The plan worked, and the great beast fell.
Before the group could celebrate, the dying Remorhaz’s struggle caused stalactites to fall. The stalactites fell and scraped Newt/ Lady Cluckington, but fell directly onto Oryx Valeshade— downing him. Casstus Wolfe gave his Special Health Potion to Newt who avoided intoxication, and Pippin Tangletoes quickly retrieved an extra bottle from Lady Cluckington, and poured it down Oryx Valeshade mouth and revives him— luckily, Oryx Valeshade succeeded against becoming blackout drunk from his second potion of the night.
Suddenly, a young Remorhaz burst forth. The group made a round of strong hits against it, and Huckleberry hurled his Javelin of Lightning, smiting the creature and causing it try to burrow away. Pippin Tangletoes and Lady Cluckington gave chase, striking the killing blow in a flurry of feathers and fury.
When the dust settled, the heroes harvested the Remorhaz Chitin for future crafting — trophies of their victory — and felt a surge of strength and experience course through them.
The party leveled up.
